My name is Caitlin Baker. I’m from South Carolina and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in marketing and sales. In my free time, I enjoy hiking with my dog and dancing to all kinds of music. I’m also a big Clemson football fan.
I’m a Territory Account Manager. My responsibilities include managing customer accounts, picking up jobs, and finding new work opportunities. My job also includes helping and troubleshooting with service and quality issues on ongoing projects, support the plants and drivers, quote prices, and sell jobs. Additionally, I onboard new customers by setting up their accounts and I conduct market analysis to monitor competitors and market trends.
On a typical workday, I start by checking on my plants and their ongoing and upcoming orders to ensure everything is on track. I spend about 90% of my time in the field, visiting job sites, meeting customers, and observing third-party testing for quality. I also look for new job opportunities, which we call “calling on red dirt”. Networking with other professionals in construction, especially salespersons, is also something that I find valuable in my work. For example, I have friends that rent out cranes, rental equipment, tilt wall panels, etc., and we help each other out with contacts and leads.
I’ve been with Thomas Concrete for about three and a half years. Before that, I worked for an environmental company handling trash and hazardous waste. I always joke that I used to sell trash, and now I sell mud.
We are truly perceived as concrete specialists here. Thomas has invested significantly in environmental initiatives and has a rigorous testing and technical department, which I’m proud to be a part of. We also get to work on some really cool projects. There’s a lot of pride in knowing that, in some form, everyone uses concrete, and we’re contributing to building something lasting.
