Precast Concrete Part 1: Lane-Ryr

LimmarAfter nine inspiring and educational weeks with the marketing department, I moved on to the fourth segment of the trainee program; precast concrete. For the duration of three weeks, I worked at our plant in Lane-Ryr, just outside of Uddevalla. I spent the first day in the office with the plant manager, Lasse, and the production processor, production planner, and system manager. They gave me some insight into all the back-end processes. On the second day I joined the team in the plant and started settling into their daily routine.

Everyday life at the plant is very different from the everyday life I have grown used to at the office. During my time in Lane-Ryr, I gained a deeper understanding of our core business. Concrete plants are noisy and dirty environments with heavy machinery and physically demanding work. Quite different from sipping coffee at a desk. I finally got the chance to get my hands dirty, as well as my uniform, whose former bright yellow color screamed “rookie.”

At our Lane-Ryr plant, we produce floor slabs, balconies, and temporarily we produce sound barrier walls. I got to tag along with the floor slab teams, and I learned how to read technical drawings, maneuver overhead cranes, position ventilation and electrical boxes, place concrete, and much more. The coworkers in Lane-Ryr are very welcoming and helpful! They made it easy to become part of the team and take part in the daily work. After three weeks, it was a bit sad to say goodbye to everyone - but we will see each other again!

Next, I will be joining the marketing department again for a couple of weeks over Christmas, and I will be focusing on the sustainability report. Then, I am off to our precast factories in Heby!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
