Makrillen is a mobility hub situated right next to the Brodalsmotet in central Borås, Sweden. The parking facility is four stories high and offers 200 parking spaces. The grocery store on the ground floor covers 1,900 m².
The project posed a logistical challenge due to its central location and proximity to other construction projects, but the challenge was overcome thanks to good planning.

For the mobility hub, Spännbalkkonsult supplied its prestressed beam system. The concrete is used both in the foundation slab and in the floor structures, where the concrete has been vacuum-treated. In total, Thomas Betong AB delivered over 1,000 m³ of concrete, of which 850 m³ was low-carbon Thomagrön. They also supplied our new vacuum concrete, Thomavakuum, with a 45% lower carbon footprint, for test areas in Makrillen.
“In our evaluation of different construction solutions, the prestressed beam frame was the most environmentally friendly option. That weighed heavily in the choice of structure. For Borås Parkering, the environment is a very important aspect,” says Hanna Munde, CEO of Borås Parkering.
“It’s exciting to follow the development of the city of Borås and the investments being made for the future. I truly appreciate the collaboration with the project’s stakeholders,” says Markus Godtman, technical sales representative at Thomas Betong AB.
