This is my final week in Kiel and the last week of the abroad period in the Trainee Program. Since my previous blog post, I’ve completed two rotations—one at the Concrete Lab and one at the Technical Department. I’ve also had the chance to experience summer in Kiel.
The second rotation in Kiel took place at the Concrete Lab. My main project during this rotation was to review the structure of the recipe numbers, focusing on simplifying internal processes while ensuring a clear and straightforward presentation of our offer to customers. I collaborated with Dennis Staub (Head of Quality Management) and Mario Langenberg (Quality Management), who provided valuable insights into the technical requirements. I was also part of a project group with colleagues from Sales, Invoicing, the Concrete Lab, and Dispatch to gather input from all relevant departments and ensure the new structure meets the needs of the entire organization. One key takeaway from the project was the importance of reviewing the entire process, even when making only minor adjustments.
During Kieler Woche, I had the opportunity to join Thomas Beton’s traditional sailing trip on the historic ship Verandering. It was a fun experience to spend time out on the Kieler Förde and meet some of Thomas Beton’s customers. As a bonus, we got to enjoy Labskaus, a traditional German dish with roots in seafaring culture.

The third rotation was at the Technical Department. My main project during this time was planning a future concrete plant. Philipp Schadendorf (CEO) and Marko Schrimpf (CTO) guided me and provided valuable input. During the rotation, Marko and I visited Thomas Beton’s concrete plant in Elmshorn. The site visit was both enjoyable and insightful, giving me a more practical understanding of the different components of a concrete plant.

My time in Kiel is now coming to an end, along with the final rotation of the Trainee Program, which officially concludes in August. It’s been a rewarding experience, both professionally and personally. A big thank you to all the colleagues in Team Thomas for their support and kindness throughout my stay.
Auf Wiedersehen!
