This nearly 100-ton structure is crafted from 52 cubic yards of a specialized concrete mix designed to meet stringent aesthetic and structural requirements. The sand was derived from a blue-black Adairsville granite with iron oxide and carbon pigments added, resulting in a deep color will change with weathering. Additionally, synthetic macro fibers were incorporated to enhance the concrete’s strength and crack resistance.
The construction process of Stealth was a meticulous endeavor that combined modern technology with traditional craftsmanship. A complex 3-D model was created to ensure precise shaping, followed by the assembly of a detailed formwork. The concrete mix was designed for superior flowability by our Technical Services Team to fill the sharply angled forms seamlessly. After casting, the sculpture was diamond honed and wet polished to achieve a reflective finish that resembles polished metal. Reinforcement was another critical aspect, with 8 tons of steel bars cut and placed by hand to support the structure’s cantilevered form. This project not only showcases the versatility and durability of high-performance concrete but also exemplifies the collaborative effort required to transform an ambitious architectural concept into a tangible, functional piece of art.
