This part of my trainee period has now ended, and wow, what an exciting time it has been! In the second part of the trainee program, I was at Thomas Betong’s concrete business area, where we produce ready-mixed concrete.
The first week was spent at the plants in Gothenburg, where Anton and I followed the different parts of the production process. That week, we spent one day in the mixing room, one day with a concrete driver delivering concrete to construction sites, one day with a pump driver, and finally, one day with the plant’s lab technician. Everyone has been so nice, and it has been very interesting to hear about their jobs.
The second week, Anton and I went to Örebro and met the team working there. After that, I continued to Karlstad, where I spent a few days in the Värmland/Skaraborg business area. There, I got to see how customer service handles orders and plans deliveries.
One of the days was really cool because I got to follow two responsible operations manager, Anders Ahl and Andreas Ahl, during their workday, and it was so fun to see! A responsible operations manager has technical responsibility for one or more plants, including the recipes used in the concrete mix. It was so interesting to hear their thoughts on concrete quality and consistency – there’s a lot to consider.
The week after that, I visited Stockholm and spent a week with sales. I got to follow a technical salesperson, Robin Jungefalk, and it was really impressive to see how he works. I even got to join him on a customer visit. One takeaway from that week is that there are many questions you need to be able to answer as a technical salesperson – and Robin did a great job! Two of those days were also a sales conference in Gränna, where everyone working in sales was present. It was great to meet them.
On Friday, I also took a detour and visited Thomas Cement’s cement terminal in Oxelösund harbor, where the site manager, Marcus Ådén, showed me around. I got to go up on the silo and see the view, I saw a truck being loaded with cement and got to hear about their daily operations.
The next block is Marketing Communication at the group level – stay tuned for more!
