Rotation 4 – Sustainability

We have received another update from our trainee, Anton Nordek, about his fourth rotation! He will continue to keep us updated throughout his trainee program. Follow along!

The fourth rotation of the trainee program is now complete. During this period, I worked with Karin Gäbel, Chief Sustainability Officer, at the Group-level sustainability department. Karin coordinates and leads Thomas Concrete Group’s efforts towards zero-carbon concrete and the implementation of the European Sustainability Reporting Standard (ESRS) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Throughout the rotation, I closely collaborated with Karin and participated in various meetings to understand her daily work. My main project involved developing a framework for setting greenhouse gas emissions targets according to ESRS. Additionally, I had the opportunity to read up on upcoming regulations, the industry’s vision, and gain more knowledge about sustainability.

Thanks to this rotation, I have gained a better understanding of the industry’s future transition, the challenges we face, and the possibilities to improve our business and achieve our vision.

I also had the opportunity to participate in the final meeting of the research project Betcrete 3.0, which took place over two days in Borås. Led by RISE, this project brings together the entire value chain for cement and concrete in a broad collaboration. The aim is to implement the cement and concrete industries’ roadmaps for climate-neutral construction through a unified strategy and joint activities. It was fascinating to hear about the results and findings from the research project. I was impressed by the ambition throughout the value chain to work together towards the industry’s transition to net-zero concrete construction.

The next rotation will be at our precast concrete division at Thomas Betong, Sweden. Stay tuned!
