As part of our 70th anniversary celebration, we’re meeting some of the employees who have been our colleagues the longest. Read about their career journeys, experiences, and how the daily work has evolved over the years!
Say hello to Bill!
When did you start working at Thomas Concrete Inc.?
I started in March 1987.
What was your first role and what is your role today?
I was hired as the site manager for the Lithonia plant, which was under construction at the time. While waiting, I operated a wheel loader in Suwanee, and before Lithonia was completed, I became the site manager in Suwanee instead. Since then, I’ve held several roles – area manager, sales manager, and division manager. Today, I’m Executive Vice President.
“A memory I always carry with me is the day Martin Thomas visited the Atlanta plant! It made a strong impression.”

Describe your current responsibilities.
I’m responsible for the Low Country Midland division, raw materials and logistics in Atlanta, growth in the residential segment across the U.S., our driver training (CDL school), as well as major projects and future expansions. But most of all, I’m an ambassador for what it means to be The Concrete Specialists.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born in 1959 in Greenville, South Carolina, and grew up there with my three siblings and our mother – a strong role model who taught us the importance of faith, kindness, and never giving up. Since 1985, I’ve lived in Atlanta.
Tell us about something you’ve been especially proud to be part of during your career at the company.
That I earned a master’s degree in business administration in 2012 – without having a bachelor’s degree. It was tough, but I made it at the age of 53, largely thanks to my mother’s perseverance as a role model.
Share a strong memory from your years at the company.
A memory I always carry with me is the day Martin Thomas visited the Atlanta plant – on a Sunday, no less! It made a strong impression.
Tell us about something unexpected that happened during your time at the company – and what it led to.
In the early 2000s, I got an offer from another company I had previously worked for – with a sign-on bonus and everything. I resigned, but after a week I asked to come back. I stayed – and I’m still glad I did.
How has the company changed since you started?
The culture has become more inclusive and collaborative, which I think is a fantastic development.
What has made you enjoy your work and stay so long?
The Thomas family’s trust and long-term investments in both the business and the people. Being part of developing others – both personally and professionally – is something I’m truly passionate about.
