Self-compacting concrete with increased raw density was used in the tunnel vaults and walls, and heavy concrete with a raw density of >3,600 kg/cbm was used in the roadway.
The Old Elbe Tunnel was opened in 1911 and served as a connecting route between the Landungsbrücken and Steinwerder for port and shipyard workers. Since 2003, the tunnel has been under monument protection. In addition to elevators for pedestrians and cyclists, hydraulically operated lifts for larger loads and cars are also located in the portal buildings.
All concretes were pumped by Thomas Beton GmbH‘s business partner BETONLIFT. With a maximum pumping distance of 290.5 meters, we jointly set the world record for pumping heavy concrete.
