Low-carbon concrete

PROJECT FACTS

Type:Residential
Location:Thomas Beton, Poland
Developer:Moderna Holding
Contractor:SCANDIQ Sp. z o.o.
Period:2024
SCALA Apartments in central Gdańsk combine urban convenience with park-like tranquility. Thomas Beton supplied low-carbon concrete to the project.

In 2024, Thomas Beton had the privilege of supplying 3,752 m³ of concrete from our two production plants in Gdańsk for the SCALA Apartments project, developed by SCANDIQ Sp. z o.o. This investment placed a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility, with a clear goal of minimizing CO₂ emissions throughout the construction process.

Sustainable Construction Highlights:

  • The majority of the concrete delivered came from our low-carbon THOMAGREEN® product line.
  • Most concrete mixes were certified with IMBiTB carbon footprint documentation.
  • Thanks to optimized formulations using a special binder with the lowest carbon footprint on the market (gross GWP: 305 kg CO₂/t), we helped to prevent nearly 520 tons of CO₂ emissions compared to traditional CEM I cement.

This project is a strong example of how innovative materials and responsible choices can significantly reduce the environmental impact of construction.

A Modern Tribute to Gdańsk’s Architectural Heritage

Located in the heart of Gdańsk, SCALA Apartments offer the perfect balance between urban energy and tranquil living. Residents enjoy the convenience of being close to the city’s vibrant center while retreating to a peaceful, park-like estate, thoughtfully separated from the main tourist routes.

The architecture of SCALA Apartments is a modern interpretation of Gdańsk’s historic midtown. The façades are clad in handmade ceramics, evoking the character of the city’s iconic brick structures—colorful tenement houses, granaries, castle towers, and churches that have shaped Gdańsk’s skyline for centuries.

Architectural details reflect the random layout of traditional brickwork, echoing the vertical and horizontal divisions of historic elevations, windows, and decorative elements. Each building within the SCALA complex features distinctive detailing, including varied balcony finishes, green rooftop terraces, and a pronounced underground level—together forming a unique architectural identity.
