This week several concrete reefs were placed in the Swedish Kosterfjord to give the endangered cold water coral 'Ögonkorall'a chance to regrow. Thomas Concrete Group's research laboratory has developed a unique concrete mix that not only maintains an optimal pH value but also withstands the harsh marine environment, ensuring durability for up to 150 years.

Boliden has made a significant technical breakthrough where slag from existing metal production in smelters can be converted into a cement substitute material. Now the company announces that an initial project with the Swedish company Thomas Concrete Group confirms both product and production performance. Åke Roos, Program Manager at Boliden, elaborates:

The Family Thomas Foundation (Familjen Thomas forskningsstiftelse) is a foundation that funds research on sustainable concrete construction. They offer a grant for the best MSc thesis in two categories: smart, resource-efficient design solutions for concrete, and resource-efficient concrete that minimizes the climate footprint. To be eligible, the thesis must contribute new knowledge in these areas, be well-structured and well-written, and have been examined at a university in the Nordic countries.

Thomas Betong, the Swedish subsidiary of Thomas Concrete Group, wants to do as the Romans did, to use volcanic material as a binder into their concrete. The idea is to replace parts of the cement with ground pumice (volcanic rock) and thus create low carbon concrete.
