Time flies when you’re having fun, and now another trainee rotation is over. This time, I had the opportunity to spend a few weeks at Thomas Betong‘s Precast business area, which has been great fun and also very new for me.
Thomas Betong’s Precast business area delivers precast concrete elements and other products throughout Sweden and Norway. All concrete elements are produced in four different plants around Sweden, but the business area also includes its own design department with design-engineers and project managers. During my time here, I got to try working in the plants in Lane-Ryr and Heby for a few weeks, as well as spending a few weeks with the design and sales teams.

My time at the business area actually started last fall, when I had the opportunity to work in the production at the plant in Lane-Ryr for two weeks. The Lane-Ryr plant mainly manufactures filigree floor slabs and balconies, but they also have the capability for other production such as road barriers and similar items. I got to work with Malin, who works in the plant, and be involved in both the manufacturing of filigree floor slabs and balconies. If anyone is wondering, my favorite part was working on the balconies!

After the new year, I started with three weeks in the design department and one week in the sales department. In the design department, I got to follow a project manager’s daily routine, seeing how they work with start-up meetings and during an ongoing project. I also had the opportunity to try working in the same programs that the design department uses, such as FEM and drawing programs. I also got some engineering projects of my own, which was fun since it was similar to many of the courses I took during my master’s degree.
During my sales week, I mainly hung out with Anthony Avalos, who is the Technical Sales for West Sweden and South Sweden. We went on customer visits, participated in coordination meetings for upcoming projects, and other tasks that are part of Anthony’s job. One thing I didn’t know before was how many different things are involved in technical sales for precast, and how much there is to keep track of, so it was really impressive to see.

After sales, Anton and I went up to the Heby plants together, where we spent two weeks in their production. In Heby, they manufacture filigree floor slabs, balconies, and solid walls in one of the plants, and double walls in the other. It has been two intense weeks with a lot to learn, but really fun to try out. Everyone who works in the plant has been so kind and patient with me these two weeks. In Heby, my favorite part was building double walls in the new plant!
Now my next-to-last trainee block begins, where I will be in the Finance department, which will be fun to try out! And if any of you who have taken care of me during these weeks read this, thank you again your time and for taking such good care of me, I’ve had a great time!
